Miguel Martinez

Originally from San Miguel de Allende, Mexico, Miguel currently resides in Washington, DC. He is an Emmy and Grammy nominated film director and an international photographer.

Miguel grew up surrounded by art in the colonial town of San Miguel de Allende, Guanajuato, and In the early 90’s, Miguel’s family immigrated to the United States, eventually landing them in Charlottesville, Virginia where he spent his formative years.  After graduating from high school, he went on to create the first ever bilingual radio show in Central Virginia that ran for eleven years.

In 2007, Miguel relocated to the DC area and began his filmmaking career. in 2010 he was the Winner of the Tribeca All Access Creative Promise Award from the Tribeca Film Institute. In 2014 he was selected to be part of Firelight Media Producers’ Lab. In 2016 he premiered his award winning documentary “Farewell Ferris Wheel” at the AFI Docs film festival. That same year he was also invited to The White House to speak about the film.  In October 2017, “Farewell Ferris Wheel” made its television debut on PBS. On April 2018 Farewell Ferris Wheel started streaming on Netflix and that same year the film was nominated at the 33rd Imagen Award for Best Documentary and the 39th News & Documentary Emmy Award.

Currently, Miguel is on a world tour as official photographer for the legendary, Grammy Award winning Cuban hip-hop group Orishas and the legendary Los Angeles Grammy Award winning Ozomatli.
