Joseph Patel is an Academy Award, Peabody, Grammy, and BAFTA-winning filmmaker. He produced the feature film, Summer of Soul (...Or, When The Revolution Could Not Be Televised), directed by Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson, which won the Oscar for Best Documentary Film (2021), as well as multiple other awards. Their follow-up film, SLY LIVES! (aka The Burden of Black Genius), on revolutionary group Sly & The Family Stone, was recently released on Hulu. Joseph began his career as a music and culture journalist, later producing and directing television, music videos and commercials for MTV, Vice Media, The Fader and more. Joseph is currently directing a documentary on the late hip-hop legend J Dilla. He lives in Brooklyn.
