Lauren Waring Douglas (she/her) began her professional career as a production coordinator for South Carolina Educational Television (SCETV). Some of her projects include credits with Sony Pictures, Universal Studios, A&E Television - Biography Network, and ABC Studios. Lauren is also a proud alum of the University of South Carolina, Columbia College Chicago, and the New Orleans Film Society’s Southern Producers’ Lab. She is honored to have served as a producer on AFTER SHERMAN. Her current projects include SAVING GULLAH LAND for ReelSouth, ROOTED, E IS FOR: and WHEN PORGY CAME HOME, the untold story of Charleston’s famous opera, Porgy and Bess. Lauren seeks to give voice to the oft-silenced Gullah Geechee culture of South Carolina.
In Rooted, Germaine Jenkins creates an urban farm on a city lot, bringing fresh produce to a food desert in North Charleston, South Carolina. As she embarks on a journey to own the land, this documentary follows her as she navigates government and the realities of becoming a community leader.
