
Nina Alvarez is a documentary producer and director currently in production on "El Paquete," a short following a Salvadoran grandmother raising three children after her daughter's arrest in the 2022 anti-gang sweeps, and Singed, a feature about Black American war photographer Stanley Greene. Her most recent film, Almost American, aired nationally on PBS in August 2024 following a six-year investigation into the termination of Temporary Protected Status. Her work has been recognized with a Peabody Award, two Columbia duPont Awards, a National Emmy, and the RFK Human Rights Journalism Award, and supported by the Firelight William Greaves Production Fund, ITVS, Latino Public Broadcasting, and JustFilms/Ford Foundation. She is an Assistant Professor at Columbia Journalism School.
