Michel Carvalho

Michel Carvalho is a Brazilian screenwriter and director. He holds a Ph.D. in Visual Anthropology from UFRJ. His work moves between documentary and fiction, exploring race, desire, and dissident sexualities. He has written more than 20 titles for film, television, and streaming, including series for platforms such as Netflix and HBO Max, as well as telenovelas for TV Globo. He directed the short films Prepara! and A.M., and is currently finishing Boy, his first feature film, a hybrid documentary selected for several international labs and markets.

ABOUT BOY

BOY is a feature-length documentary about the daily life of black male escorts in the city of São Paulo. Through observational language, personal diaries and lyrical moments, the film intends to reflect on desire, coloniality and (hyper)sexualization of the black man.
