MONICA BERRA | IMPACT & ENGAGEMENT COORDINATOR
Monica Berra serves as the Impact and Engagement Coordinator for Firelight Media. She is also an independent filmmaker from Miami who uses nonfiction film to explore themes around the American Dream, self-identity, and mobility in this country. Monica’s most recent film, Soul City, aired on the public television series REEL SOUTH in January 2017, and has received numerous awards during its international film festival run, including Best Directing at the Reel Sisters of the Diaspora Film Festival and Best Documentary Short at the Harlem International Film Festival. She is passionate about not only telling stories of underrepresented communities, but also engaging with diverse audiences often underserved by traditional documentary distribution platforms.
Prior to entering the world of documentary filmmaking, Monica worked as a broadcast news journalist in Florida. She holds an MFA in documentary filmmaking from Wake Forest University and is based in New York City.
