Soul Food Junkies aired on Independent Lens in February 2013. Soul Food Junkies explores the health advantages and disadvantages of soul food, a quintessential American cuisine. Byron’s documentary discusses the historical and cultural issues around food in the African American community and supports audiences to develop better food and lifestyle choices. Byron and his crew shot footage in 10 U.S cities. Production culminated at the Soul Food Cook-off competition in Muskogee, Oklahoma. Soul Food Junkies was the lead off show for Independent Lens’ new 2012-13 season! The film was well received during its January 14, 2013 national broadcast on Independent Lens, which reached over 1.5M viewers.
